When considering fitness, we tend to focus on the core and larger muscles of the body. “Core” is often limited to mean “abdominals”; however, it is more than that, including the spinal stabilizers, pelvis, hips, and shoulder girdle.
Wait…shoulder girdle? Yes! A body’s core extends to the trunk of the body, including almost everything except the extremities.
When the muscles in the feet are activated, it creates a chain reaction that also activates muscles deep in the pelvis, hip, diaphragm and trunk. This results in greater stability of your entire body, making movement more efficient, and moving with greater efficiency means it takes less effort to do the same amount of work.
Podiatrist & Human Movement Specialist Dr. Emily Splichal principally focuses on functional and regenerative medicine, especially the role of anti-aging science as it relates to movement longevity. In her new book Barefoot Strong: Unlock the Secrets to Movement Longevity, Dr. Splichal explores the science behind barefoot training and how this often overlooked area of health and fitness is actually the secret to youthful movement. Her unique barefoot training approach has been taught to over 20,000 professionals in more than 35 countries.
Small group trainer Holly Carpenter recently received her certification as a Barefoot Training Specialist under Dr. Splichal, and Holly is excited to share what she has learned with the Body Move’s community, both in mind and body. In March, Holly will lead a workshop on movement longevity and the science of barefoot training, demonstrating the importance of fascial fitness and neuromuscular conditioning, as well as highlighting how to navigate the unnatural conditions of today’s shod society and optimize your movement patterns.

Later this spring, Body Moves will offer a BARE®️ class for barefoot training led by Holly Carpenter.
Created by Dr. Splichal, BARE® is the only workout that combines the benefits of barefoot, balance, bodyweight and body tension training for one intense workout, bringing the science of foot to core sequencing, breath & pelvic floor connections, and fascial tensioning to a group setting. It is a perfect addition to our Active Living class offerings.
Keep in step with the Body Moves community and LIVE WELL
as we learn more about movement longevity together through barefoot training!!
